In brief: Grab halts late-night carpooling in Singapore

Ride-hailing firm Grab said on Wednesday it would stop offering carpooling services during late-night hours in Singapore after drivers complained about some passengers being drunk and argumentative.

Citing feedback from drivers who described intoxicated commuters vomiting in their cars or arguing with them during the ride, the company said it would stop its GrabHitch service between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. from next month.

The ride-hailing firm’s GrabHitch service allows separate passengers who are heading in a similar direction to share a ride in a private car.

GrabShare – its other carpooling service, offered by regulated taxi drivers – has been suspended between the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. since June.
