Hello readers,

Every week, startups from a wide range of industries and verticals raise billions of dollars in funding from investors.

The types of industries that populate our regularly updated funding database are constantly fluctuating as well. Some weeks, we’ll see a gaming startup or five raise a ton of cash, and on others, a bunch of healthtech startups might secure funding.

But one vertical that rakes in investments week after week is ecommerce. This week is no different: Of the 96 deals that took place, 17 were ecommerce startups, with over US$514 million in disclosed funding secured between them. Fintech and artificial intelligence, by comparison – the second and third-most sought-after verticals this week – contributed only nine transactions each to the total number of deals.

That’s why we launched another newsletter series focused entirely on ecommerce this week. The Checkout goes out every Thursday, breaking down the biggest stories and trends from this red-hot industry. You can check out (ha ha) the first edition, where we take a deep dive into ultrafast fashion business Shein, the latest player to take the ecommerce world by storm. You can subscribe here to have future editions delivered straight to your inbox.

You can find all other important investment deals that were stitched together in the last few days in our weekly funding news wrap-up.

Let’s dive into the most noteworthy deals and M&As in the past week.
