Chinese gamer fakes kidnapping to get out of work, you can guess what happens next

We’ve all had those days before, the ones you stayed up too late gaming last night, and when the alarm goes off in the morning, you just don’t want to go to work. But most of us just suck it up and go in anyway, or maybe call in sick.

A recent Chinese college grad named Liu had a different idea last week, though. After a night spent gaming with his girlfriend in an internet cafe, Liu was tired and didn’t want to have to work his shift at the delivery company he’d just joined. He showed up at work looking shaken and wearing only his tighty-whities, and told his co-workers an incredible story: he had been grabbed outside his apartment, shoved into a van, robbed, and eventually dumped into a ditch.

Somehow, though, Liu didn’t anticipate what would happen next: his shocked coworkers called the police to report the kidnapping. The police investigation quickly uncovered holes in his story: the area outside Liu’s apartment was covered by surveillance cameras but there was no evidence of the kidnapping or even any trace of the van or the suspects he described. And Liu apparently contradicted himself several times in his testimony to police. The result, it seems, was inevitable: Liu was arrested and is currently being detained on charges of filing a false police report.

So, let that be a lesson to you: when you’ve stayed up too late gaming, just call in sick like a normal person.
