DeNA to Bring Mobage to Aliyun OS in China

Japan’s mobile social gaming giant DeNA (TYO:2432) is announcing today that its Chinese subsidiary DeNA China is partnering with Alibaba Cloud Computing (AliCloud), a subsidiary of Alibaba Group (HKG:1688), to bring Mobage to Aliyun OS smartphones. The tie-up represents a partnership between two Asian internet giants, though I find it somewhat surprising considering how new Aliyun is.

We took a closer look at Aliyun a few months back, which was officially unveiled back in July. According to DeNA, Mobage will be pre-loaded on the K-Touch W800 smartphone, which is set to go on sale in early 2012. Since Aliyun runs Android apps, we were curious as to whether this was actually Mobage China for Android — and a DeNA representative confirmed to us that indeed it is.

The agreement will also help Chinese game developers by making the ngCore game engine accessible via AliCloud’s cloud services. DeNA’s president, Isao Moriyasu, commented on the partnership:

Through AliCloud’s innovative mobile OS and cloud services, DeNA will be able to deliver Mobage to even larger user base in China, while also allowing promising Chinese developers to expand their reach to our global user base.

Likewise Wang Jian, the president of Alibaba Cloud Computing also noted the importance of the tie-up for gamers and developers alike:

We are looking forward to enriching the Chinese game market through Mobage China, while creating opportunities for Chinese developers to succeed around the world.
