Two of the most known micro-blogging sites, Plurk and Twitter have been widely compared in terms of their functionality.
Of course we all understand that Twitter is the father of micro-blogging and Plurk has always been seen as the runner-up; but how much better is Twitter doing exactly?
For the month of June (latest data from Compete), Plurk saw its traffic plunge at free fall mode. A drastic -11.48% monthly and -22.68% yearly change seem to be urging Plurk to rethink its strategy.
No doubt Plurk has been successful in creating a warm and chatty environment; but compared to Twitter, it is a less effective information-sharing platform. With a growing community of online business users, Twitter is obviously the preferred choice for going viral.
Statistics can tell a lot but money speaks louder. Google and Facebook have successfully generated revenue out of their high traffic, and many people are skeptical about whether Twitter can do the same out of its growing population.
While the co-founders of Twitter are optimistic about Twitter’s future and are adjusting towards it, only time will tell if Twitter can replicate Google and Facebook’s success.
