Y Combinator to welcome Initialized Capital founder as new CEO

Startup fund and accelerator Y Combinator will see Initialized Capital founder Garry Tan as its new president and CEO next year.

Tan will succeed Geoff Ralston, who has been with Y Combinator since 2011. Ralston will be leaving at the end of the year.

No stranger to Y Combinator, Tan had previously joined the fund as a partner after selling blogging platform Posterous – which he co-founded – to Twitter in 2011. He advised startups at Y Combinator while creating some of the core internal software at the accelerator.

In 2015, Tan left the firm, wishing to focus more on Initialized Capital, a venture capital firm he co-founded in 2012.

In anticipation of Tan’s shift to helming Y Combinator, Initialized Capital promoted Jennifer Wolf and Brett Gibson to managing partners. Tan will continue to be a strategic advisor at Initialized Capital after his move to Y Combinator.
