Coinbase swipes right on former Tinder exec to lead SEA push

Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has appointed Giuliano Octavianos, the former Tinder country marketing and business head for Southeast Asia, to lead market expansion into the region.

Octavianos assumed his new post this month and is based out of Indonesia.

Prior to Coinbase, he was the first hire for Tinder’s Southeast Asia operations, responsible for the dating app’s entry and growth in Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines. He also had stints with Blackberry and Facebook in Asia, getting his start with Unilever in Jakarta in 2008.

Octavianos’ appointment comes after Coinbase in May named Durgesh Kaushik to spearhead its operations in emerging markets. Kaushik was the managing director for India and South Asia at Snap, the parent firm of messaging app Snapchat.

These managerial appointments follow Coinbase’s plans to enter Southeast Asia – mirroring peer Crypto.com – by forming local teams in Indonesia.

In February 2022, Coinbase identified three major markets for expansion: the Americas; Europe, Middle East, and Africa; and Asia Pacific. In a blog post, the company said that roles for regional managing directors, country directors, and other global and regional leadership positions were open for these markets.
