Line announces that it’s coming to Apple Watch

ENapplewatch

Today, Japan’s Line messaging app announced via the company’s website that it will support the Apple Watch. Users of the Line smartphone app will be able to link the app with their Watch to view and send messages on their wrist. And – of course – you don’t have to reply with your voice, as the Line Watch app will also support messaging with stickers and emoji.

The app’s functionality will be limited compared to the smartphone app, though. At launch there will be only 38 kinds of stickers and 144 different emoji available, and there’s no way to download additional emoji or stickers. The Watch app also won’t support text messages or sending pictures the way that the smartphone version does.

In addition to English and several European languages, Line’s Watch app will be available in Japanese, Korean and Chinese (both simplified and traditional) at launch.

At its recent event unveiling the Apple Watch, Apple revealed that Chinese chat app WeChat would be among the first third-party companies to offer an app on the platform. Line is likely to be the second major Asian messaging app to make it to the Apple Watch, although its announcement makes it a little unclear exactly when the Line Watch app will be available.

Line says it is making Watch support available so that users can chat β€œwhile on the move, playing sports, or engaged in other physical activities.”
