Another Chinese video site goes mobile: PPTV is making a smartphone

Perhaps inspired by online video rival LeTV, which has dived headfirst into smart hardware over the past few years, another Chinese video streaming company is making the jump to mobile hardware. PPTV, the Chinese video streaming service acquired by Suning in 2013, also has plans to get into the game and make smartphones, according to a Sina Tech report citing anonymous sources.
The Sina report also includes the image above, which is reportedly a leaked concept image of the PPTV phone.
Details about the phone are scarce, but the report seems likely to be accurate given that PPTV parent company Suning’s Fan Zhijun said back in January that PPTV would definitely be getting into smart hardware.
Through Suning, PPTV already has an easy distribution platform for its smartphone ambitions, but it is not yet clear who the company’s hardware partners will be.
