For any of our readers in need of the latest political opinion from the Chinese Government, the nation’s State Council Information Office has launched an iPad app. It’s not like I was patiently waiting for it or anything, because admittedly it looks excruciatingly boring. But I was surprised to see that it turned up in the latest propaganda orders from the very same office.
According to China Digital Times yesterday, among the most recent deletion and censorship instructions was a short plug for this new iPad app:
From the State Council Information Office: All websites are requested to post in a prominent position the article: “China State Council News and Information Office Formally Unveils iPad App to Better Introduce the World to China.”
Not surprisingly this is the first app from the Chinese government. Available in English and Chinese, the app was developed by CCTV(.com) the nation’s major TV broadcaster. It will include a number of white papers as well as live video streams for SCIO press conferences.
So just in case you need a little help understanding what China is officially about, the app is available as a free download over on the iTunes store.
