- Chinese electric-vehicle startup Nio recalled nearly 5,000 of its ES8 electric SUVs after a series of battery fires were reported in the country over the past few months, The Verge reported.
- There was a design vulnerability in the battery pack that could lead to a short circuit, according to an investigation that involved the company, “industry experts,” and other related parties.
- Nio says it has shifted to a different battery in October of last year, which is why the recall stops there.
- It will take two months to swap out battery packs on all of the affected vehicles, the startup said.
