Chinese League of Legends team WE continues to fall apart, CaoMei begs teammates to stay

Things are not getting better for Team WE, a top Chinese League of Legends team that is falling apart (pictured above just hours before this saga began). Yesterday, I wrote about how Team WE analyst had left the team, reportedly taking team members FZZF and Mann along with him. The team hasn’t issued any further official statements since that piece, but things have continued to fall apart in a rather public way.

Responding to the allegations that the swift departures broke regulations, China’s competitive League of Legends governing body L.ACE has promised to “severely punish” anyone involved in an illegal transfer. If Team WE youth coach Xiao Shou is correct that the departing players and analyst broke regulations, that doesn’t bode well for any of them. The organization has handed out bans before, and might be considering doing so again.

Meanwhile, Team WE’s CaoMei is hoping that there won’t be anyone leaving, at least until after this year’s G League. On his weibo account yesterday, he posted this message:

As a teammate, as a friend, and as a brother, I beg you: play through the G League with me and then leave, I beg you, beg you…even if in the end, I have to play against you, even if that’s the last time, I beg you…

Team WE manager King also addressed the turbulence on his weibo account, writing that all the team members “have contracts that run though the second half of next year” but also thanking those team members who “won’t leave no matter who [tries to get them].”

In slightly more positive news, as it becomes obvious that spots on Team WE’s roster are going to need filling, rumors have begun to swirl about the replacement candidates. One of the names being floated is ShinyRuo, currently of RisingStars Gaming.

We will continue to keep an eye on the Team WE situation and post updates as warranted. It seems China’s League of Legends scene is due for a significant shift, but will CaoMei be able to convince his friends to wait until after the G League to do it?
