China’s 400% humanoid leap

Hello reader,

As I’m sitting here trying to write something on RAMageddon 3.0, the latest global shortage of memory chips, all I can think is: did I remember to take my pill this morning?

Ironic, right? Yes, memory shortages are bad. (Try to avoid getting older, kiddies, if you can help it.)

What would really be helpful would be a robot that could remind me to take the damn pill. I may be in luck here, as robots that can assist with healthcare are part of the foreseeable future.

With so many kinds of robots being developed, my colleague Duc Tran has put together a map of all the major Chinese robotics companies that you should know about, which is this week’s top AI story.

Why China? It’s currently dominating the robotics industry. While most of the robots it makes are used for industrial and warehouse-related jobs, the next big surge in robotics will be humanoids. The country saw an over 400% year-on-year growth in humanoid robotics hiring in the first five months of 2025.

We’ll also look at Cortex AI, a robotics-focused data company that just raised US$6 million in seed funding. The firm was founded by Lucas Ngoo, one of the co-founders of Carousell.

Finally, we’ll return to RAMageddon and find out why it’s getting a lot harder and more expensive to get memory chips.
