China is Fastest Growing iOS and Android Market, Says Flurry

Mobile analytics firm Flurry has released some new numbers that indicate how the global smartphone market is changing, showing which nations are have the most iOS and Android install bases, and which ones are growing the fastest. As you might’ve guessed, China is still coming on strong.

Based on data collected from over 200,000 apps, Flurry says there were 640 million iOS and Android devices active during July 2012, with about 165 million of those coming from the US. That led all nations, but China was not far back with 128 million active devices. Sitting in a distant third was the UK at 31 million, followed by the mature mobile markets of South Korea and Japan with 28 and 22 million respectively

When you will get growth the numbers tell a different story, as China is “dramatically closing the gap,” leading all nations with 401 percent growth between July 2011 and July 2012 (see chart above). The US still has the largest iOS and Android install base, but it only grew by 30 million. China on the other hand, added 100 million new devices.

As we recently saw in a separate report from Chinese mobile analysts Umeng, the southern province of Guangdong likely accounts for the largest share of Android and iOS devices in China, with Jiangsu province and the urban centers of Beijing and Shanghai also showing an affinity for smartphones.

Other Asian nations that showed remarkably strong growth (according to Flurry) were Vietnam at 193 percent, and India at 171 percent. In terms of countries where markets are nearing saturation, Singapore and Hong Kong top the list at 92 and 87 percent respectively.

When we last checked in on China’s total 3G subscriber totals, the figure stood at over 175 million, and was still growing pretty strong. China Mobile is still the leading telco with 67 million subscribers, with China Unicom and China Telecom not too far behind with 57 and 50 million subscribers respectively. [Via Techcrunch]
