China’s shoppers have done it again, smashing last year’s Singles Day record.
The online shopfest ended moments ago, with Alibaba’s customers spending US$30.7 billion during the 24-hour event, up from US$25.3 billion in 2017.
Over 1 billion orders were placed, according to Alibaba.
Archrival JD said its shoppers snapped up US$23 billion worth of items, although that was spread from November 1 to 11.
With nearly every Chinese online retailer participating, this year’s Singles Day was bigger than Amazon’s Prime Day (US$4 billion), plus the US’ Black Friday (US$8 billion) and Cyber Monday (US$6.6 billion) combined.
