Dropbox Brings Korean Language to Its Website and Apps, Ready for Galaxy S III Launch

The U.S.-based cloud storage site Dropbox has today launched a Korean-language version of its service. Users in Korea can make use of this right away on the web app (pictured above) and on Android [1]. Updates to the PC, Mac, and iOS software will come in due course.

The Korean support is timely, coming just before the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S III next month. Dropbox and the Korean Samsung (005930:KS) brand have a deal wherein buyers of the new flagship Sammie phone will get 50GB of free space for two years – something that’s normally worth US$200.

Dropbox head of mobile business develpment, Lars Fjeldsoe-Nielsen, said this morning:

Korea has been a leader in mobile technology adoption and innovation for many years. We are particularly thrilled to work with global partners, like Samsung, to jointly offer a localized version of Dropbox to the Korean people. We look forward to launching with millions of new Android phones and tablets this year.

That free extra storage promotion will apply to selected other Android-powered Samsung phones as well, giving Dropbox the potential to reach a lot more of the nation’s keen smartphone buyers. The new language support will help a lot, despite many youngsters being good at reading English. Samsung recently surpassed Nokia as the world’s top phone-maker, thanks in no small part to the success of its Galaxy S series – and to the loyalty of its compatriot customers.
