China: i-league details released, LAN finals to clash with WEC in September

The Dota 2 scene was expected to go on a long hiatus after The International 2014 (TI4), but it doesn’t seem to be the case for China. In fact, September will have two big Chinese events—the i-league and the World eSports Championship (WEC)—both featuring Dota 2 teams from the East and the West.

ImbaTV has recently released the schedule and prize pool of its crowdfunded Dota 2 tournament, i-league, which will be happening from August to September this year featuring Eastern and Western teams. Check out the tournament schedule:

The LAN finals will feature a total of eight teams with two from Europe and US qualifiers, one from the Southeast Asian and Korean qualifiers, and three from the Chinese qualifiers. The last two slots will be given to two Chinese teams as voted for by the community.

An additional 1,700,000 RMB ($275,000) has been raised via crowdfunding on top of i-league’s base prize pool of 100,000 RMB ($16,000). According to OnGamers, 70 percent of the total figure will be used as prize pool and distributed as follows:

• 1st – 50%
• 2nd – 20%
• 3rd – 10%
• 4th – 10%
• 5th to 8th – 2.5%

The schedule for i-league’s LAN finals, however, will be clashing with WEC on September 6 to 8. According to 2P, neither of the two organizations seems to be planning to reschedule. A similar event occurred last year, as three big tournaments overlapped and caused conflict for the top teams, forcing them to choose which tournaments to attend. TI4 champions, Team Newbee have confirmed attendance to WEC.

While East versus West tournaments are indeed exciting, we suggest not expecting too much, as the post-TI4 shuffle has barely begun and will unlikely reach its conclusion in time for both tournaments.
