iberry to Offer $142 Tablet in India, Acting Secretively…

iberry: "You can't see me!"

Hong Kong-based hardware manufacturer iberry is all set to launch its Rs 6,999 (US$142) tablet in India, The Mobile Indian reported. Seriously — wow. First this announcement comes just before the iPhone 5 announcement (very timely). Second, the price is insanely cheap for a tablet. Third, the company is extremely secretive about its new product’s look and feel.

All we can find is a blurry image (see above) with a magnifying glass for visitors to take a close look on its site, but not the entire look-though. The iberry will be available both in 7 and 10 inch models on October 10. If you’re interested, you can head over to the website here to find out more. The specs look pretty okay for just $142.

While the price is insanely low, I’m having doubts. Seriously, I don’t know who iberry is and finding its official website has been quite a task. And when you log on to its site, there isn’t an ‘About us’ section to learn more about the company. I mean, if iberry really wanted people to buy their product, the first and most obvious thing to do is to give potential customers some assurance.

For someone to step out of their comfort zone to buy from a non-Apple or non-Samsung company, my immediate concern is what happens if my iberry tablet breaks down? Plus, there isn’t any information on how and where can one purchase a iberry tablet on its site. Perhaps all this information is supposed to be a secret too, and will only be unveiled on October 10. I would rather pay $60 more to get an Amazon Fire, a company which I trust better, and assuming it’s available in India.

On a related note, $142 isn’t the cheapest tablet in India — try beating $35.
