Get a look at the most promising game in development at Casual Connect Asia 2014, Trigger Princess

In 2011, game developer Mintsphere released Trigger Knight, an endless runner with a twist—you run into encounters with monsters, and you have to strategically allocate your funds into upgrading your armor and weapons to ensure you survive as long as possible.

Fast forward to 2014, and the good guys at Mintsphere have returned with an even cooler spiritual sequel to Trigger Knight titled Trigger Princess. After sitting down to play a demo of the game at Casual Connect Asia 2014, it’s no wonder to me how this game won the most promising game in development award from the Asian Indie Prize 2014.

Mintsphere’s Indonesian co-founder and director Wilson Tjandra tells me that while Trigger Knight was about managing a lone character, Trigger Princess involves you protecting a weak and frail princess. You accomplish this by triggering events requiring energy points that let you add troops or raise team morale.

While Trigger Knight is no slouch in the pixel graphics department, Trigger Princess blows it out of the water with well-animated and impressive sprites. The in-game art is also easy on the eyes.

The game also has a storyline, which Tjandra hints will see the return of the protagonist of Trigger Knight. (Shouldn’t she be dead, seeing as how her game is an endless runner?)

I think Trigger Knight is looking like a great example of how a one-button game can still be great fun and full of strategy. Trigger Knight doesn’t have a release date yet, but Tjandra and his team are planning to release it for web browsers, Android, iOS, and other mobile devices. I’m stoked!
