Now cats, dogs, and even fish can take a Grab

Grab has unveiled the latest addition to its service lineup: a dedicated ride-hailing service for users who want to travel with their pets.

Launching in beta today, GrabPet allows Singaporean users to hail rides specifically kitted out to transport their non-human family members. The service will be provided by drivers trained in animal handling, while GrabPet vehicles will feature a foldable backseat cover with an adjustable leash. Each fare will include insurance coverage for pets on board.

Fares will start at S$14 (US$10.40). Traveling pets will have to be on a leash or in a suitable carrier, and must be accompanied by their master at all times. Users will be able to bring up to two “medium-sized pets” of under 41 cm in length or one “large pet” of 41 cm or more along for the ride.

All household pets approved by Singapore’s Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority are welcome on board, except for birds. Here are Grab’s guidelines:

Type of pet How to transport
Dogs Leash or crate
Cats, chinchillas, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, rabbits Crate
Fish Sealed bag/closed fish tank
Turtles, crabs, frogs Closed container

Local rival Ryde launched dedicated ride-hailing for pets (including birds) in February last year. However, Grab claimed today that while existing services “typically require bookings or reservations to be made in advance,” GrabPet is an on-demand offering.

Humans who want to travel with their furry (and not-so-furry) friends in tow can get S$3 off their first GrabPet rides for a limited time by using promo code “LOVEPETS.”
