Blade & Soul is getting turned into an anime show

Korean MMORPG Blade & Soul is pretty damn popular in the countries where people can actually play it, which right now is still just South Korea and China. But although the game may be slow to branch out to other countries (no surprises there), it is definitely branching out in other ways, and the latest news is that an animated TV series based on the game will be produced, and is expected to debut this April.

The show is reportedly being produced by Japanese anime studio Gonzo, which Blade & Soul publisher Nexon has previously worked with to produce an animated show based on Dungeon & Fighter. More details about the show will be announced later this month, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to learn that it’s coming to Japan as well as Korea. All signs point to an imminent release of the Blade & Soul beta in Japan, and with a Japanese studio working on a Blade & Soul anime, it seems unlikely that Nexon would squander the promotional opportunity the series might represent in Japan.

But of course that’s just speculation for the moment. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information about the Blade & Soul show as it becomes available.
