Tokopedia to offer health products through GoApotik partnership

Indonesian ecommerce giant Tokopedia announced a strategic partnership with online pharmacy GoApotik to offer medicines and health products on the Tokopedia app and website.

With the new service, Tokopedia users will be able to purchase health equipment and various kinds of medicines, such as over-the-counter and prescription drugs, according to a statement.

It will also allow users to upload their prescriptions through a “Chat with the Pharmacist” feature for purchases of certain drugs. The document will be verified for authenticity by an official GoApotik pharmacy partner, which will prepare the medicine according to the prescription. The delivery would then be handled by Tokopedia’s logistics partners.

According to Tokopedia’s assistant vice president for business, Jessica Stephanie Jap, there has been an increased demand from users for health products on the platform. She said that total transactions in this category went up by more than 200% from July to September 2019, citing internal data.

In addition to the GoApotik tie-up, Tokopedia said it will be working with Indonesia’s National Agency of Drug and Food Control to oversee the distribution, delivery, promotion, and marketing of food and drug sales on its platform.

In 2018, Grab announced a joint venture with Chinese online healthcare player Ping An Good Doctor to provide medical services such as medicine delivery and appointment bookings.

GrabHealth, registered as Good Doctor Technology in Indonesia, lets users chat with medical professionals, purchase medicines, and view medical records and transactions.

Gojek, meanwhile, operates medicine delivery service GoMed in partnership with Halodoc, which raised series B+ money from strategic investors in July.
