ByteDance’s Douyin trials food delivery service
Douyin, ByteDance’s version of TikTok for the Chinese market, is trying out its own food delivery feature, its second foray into the market, the South China Morning Post reported.
With the new feature, some restaurants can now add food delivery options to their Douyin channels. However, restaurants must have their own delivery staff or rely on third-party delivery services.
The development follows Douyin testing out a food delivery mini app last year. Called Xindong Waimai, the service was available from inside the Douyin app, but the company decided not to roll out the feature to more local markets.
A representative from the firm’s life services department told the South China Morning Post that the company is looking to provide group delivery services and that the effort is “still under exploration.”
