TikTok deleted 7.6 million videos from Indonesia in Q4 2022: report

During the fourth quarter of 2022, TikTok removed 7.6 million videos from Indonesia, placing it among the countries with the most content violations on the platform.

Globally, the number of videos taken down was 85.7 million, or 0.6% of the total videos published throughout the quarter. This marked an improvement from Q3 2022, which saw the deletion of 110.9 million videos.

“TikTok uses a combination of innovative technology and people to identify, review, and action content that violates our policies,” the firm stated in its recent global community guide enforcement report.

Minor safety has become the most frequently violated policy. This is in line with the alarming number of underage users on the app – reportedly one in four TikTok users is under the age of 20.

The US, which boasts 113.25 million users, saw the highest volume of removed videos: 13 million.

Though Indonesia is home to the firm’s second-largest user base, at 109.9 million as of January 2023, it ranks third in terms of the total videos removed.

TikTok has recently been under scrutiny by regulators globally.

The firm could be facing a probe in Vietnam to make sure that it follows the country’s laws regarding content management, taxes, payments, and commercial policies.

The US is also looking to ban the Chinese social media app due to data sharing concerns – going so far as forbidding government workers from downloading the platform on their work phones.
