Fantasy football? Forget that. The future is eSports, and eSports is now. Riot Games has announced a fantasy League of Legends league that will let you handpick your own team of players from the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) and pit them against your friends’.
You’ll also be able to create your own four, six, or eight team leagues and invite friends to them, and organize your draft. A total of seven players can be picked for each team, covering the positions top, jungle, mid, AD carry, support, flex, team, and three alternate players who can be substituted in for a starting player. Only two players can be picked for each position. Drafts in the Fantasy LCS will happen in real time, with an allowance of just one minute for each pick.
More excitingly, your players’ statuses will be based on their real-life performance at the actual LCS, so you’re going to have to watch those games closely to keep on top of who’s owning, and who’s not.
During the games, both your team and your players will score points based on performances. Teams are scored on wins, dragons, and turrets, while players are judged by kills, deaths, assists, and creep kills.
The Fantasy LCS is expected to enter its playable beta stage in time for the summer season, though the official website says gamers who have gotten their invites can get started. It’s possible that a private, closed beta test is already under way.

Only players from the NA and EU League of Legends Championship Series can be drafted, so we probably will be able to see Chinese team LMQ in the Fantasy LCS. Hopefully, the fantasy league can eventually grow to include the entire gamut of Asian League of Legends teams. There’s just too much talent, and too much hype in Asia for our League of Legends players to get ignored.
