I made an oopsie this week.
While moderating a fireside chat with a data scientist, I mistakenly referred to my interviewee as a “he” before her video turned on and I realized my blunder.
It was an honest mistake, but that doesn’t excuse my inherent bias that a data scientist would probably be a man.
Things like this are exactly why we need campaigns like the one we’ve run for International Women’s Day over the past week. Even among the most well-intentioned people, biases need to be broken.
