People in Vietnam have recently been wondering about young women walking down Hanoi streets dressed in revealing costumes and with “3kg” signs drawn on their chests. These signs have been quite “thought-provoking” ones as they insinuate their bearers’ breasts weigh three kilograms.
As it turns out, these ladies are a part of a gaming PR campaign, for the game Time Traveler Heroes from VTC mobile, one of the biggest publishers in Vietnam. The issue went viral on many Vietnamese sites, and social networks like Haivl have been causing a fair number of visitors to blush.

Given gaming’s already negative reputation in Vietnam, this is just another move that suggests publishers have no shame when they are trying to market their games. Many other game sites in Vietnam also need this kind of content to pull in more traffic. Quan Nguyen, CEO of Game4v, said that content like this can easily pull in one million views in one night. On the other hand, a good review video would get only a thousand. Most of these sites survive on advertising, which means they need more traffic to make more money. In other words, breasts are keeping these sites alive.

Fortunately, Vietnamese gamers still prefer games with better content. Regardless of how hard these publishers try to push their games with suggestive content, a game will not last long if it’s a bad one. The market has proven that games marketed this way have very short shelf lives comparing to other good games. But following the success of this latest stunt, we can probably expect we haven’t seen the last of attractive women being employed to promote games.
