Street Fighter Puzzle Spirits looks like Puzzle & Dragons, but won’t be a clone

There’s been a lot of speculation that the new mobile Street Fighter game, Street Fighter Puzzle Spirits, is a Pazu Dora clone. However Street Fighter IV series producer Yoshinori Ono denied this over the weekend in an interview in Singapore. While Ono said that he doesn’t know much about the game in progress, he said that he does trust his staff, and that he’s certain the development team will not create a Puzzle & Dragons clone.

Ono said that Street Fighter Puzzle Spirits is not necessarily a sign that the Street Fighter series is going mobile, and that the Street Fighter team is not developing games for specific platforms only, citing the iOS version of Street Fighter IV as an example.

He also explained that while tournament hype – such as that shown at the recently concluded Capcom Pro Tour Asia – is something that’s difficult to convey over the mobile platform, he thinks that player-versus-player showdowns can be fully experienced on mobile.

According to Ono, Street Fighter Puzzle Spirits will be released in Japan first, before gradually getting localized for the rest of the world. He added that he already has several ideas in mind for new Street Fighter games where next-gen consoles like the Playstation 4 are concerned. He also believes the Gaikai-based Playstation Now game streaming service will be able to help create a new type of Street Fighter game.
