Amid all the controversy that has surrounded Chinese electronics manufacturing in recent years, it’s always insightful when we get an inside look at how such factories. Readers may recall when Marketplace’s Rob Schmitz put together a video tour of Apple’s assembly line, giving a dose of reality after he exposed Mike Daisey’s embellishments.
Similarly, these two videos below give us a look at the factory and the assembly line for a low-cost, 7-inch Android tablet. This is the Boxchip A13, which is apparently going to sell for 350 RMB, or about $55 dollars. There’s an interesting discussion with the makers here if you’d like to find out more details.
For those of you who have never seen the inside of a Chinese factory, this is another interesting glimpse not just at how the work is done, but a look at the faces of the people who build our electronics. Most of the ones in this first clip are young girls, performing a range of tasks and tests as they put together the Boxchip A13.
