Hello reader,
When my wife and I moved to Metro Manila two years ago, we sold our car. We thought that we didn’t need it anymore, as most of the places we’d want to go were just a Grab away.
That said, there have been times when we wished we still had our own car, especially with the difficulty of booking pet-friendly Grab rides these days. One of my friends who lives in a condominium near me shares the same sentiment.
Turns out, I’m one of the prime targets for services such as GetGo’s.
The Singapore car-sharing platform has recently put a lot of effort into getting its car stations into condominium areas. With around a fifth of the city-state’s population living in condominiums, it’s a key market for the company.
And as Ting Feng Toh told me during my interview with him for our first top story, the reception has been positive.
These initiatives come after a year of rapid fleet growth, which played a part in putting the company in the red for 2023. But GetGo has since hit the brakes and made a strategic shift that led it back to profit in 2024.
In our second top story, Vidit Agrawal, co-founder and managing director of earned-wage access firm GajiGesa, writes about when and how startup founders should employ three strategies – pivots, partnerships, and acquisitions – as funding continues to dwindle across Southeast Asia.
