Naver Z, which operates the popular South Korean metaverse platform Zepeto, has signed a memorandum of understanding with True to develop the metaverse ecosystem on Zepeto.

Launched in 2018, Zepeto currently has more than 500,000 users in Thailand. Globally, it has surpassed 20 million monthly active users. It has also gone past five billion content creations and three billion items sold through collaborations with 100 global companies and celebrities.

The platform is particularly attractive for K-pop fans. Zepeto recently collaborated with Lisa, a member of the popular South Korean girl group Blackpink, to host a virtual event where her fans could take selfies with her avatar on Zepeto. So far, more than 13 million Blackpink-related items have been sold on Zepeto.

“Using Zepeto as a platform, we will provide a special future-oriented, online-to-offline experience that fits the lifestyle of Thai users and promotes Thailand’s soft power in metaverse content creation for Zepeto’s global audience,” said Birathon Kasemsri, chief content and media officer at True.
