Singapore: Robotics startup CEO prosecuted by government over unpaid salaries

• Woon Junyang, CEO of Singapore-based startup Infinium Robotics, has been charged by the Singapore government’s Ministry of Manpower over unpaid employee salaries.
• Junyang faces three counts of failing to “pay salary to employee upon dismissal,” and one count of failing to pay the salary “due on termination by the employee due to breach of contract by the employer.”
• The Ministry says that employers who fail to pay salaries to employees can be fined up to S$15,000 (US$11,000) and/or imprisoned up to six months. The penalty can be doubled for repeat offenders.
• Junyang declined to comment on the court case as it’s still ongoing. Infinium is best known for its drone restaurant waiters.

Junyang has issued the following statement on April 28:

• Infinium Robotics as a company and personally as an entrepreneur running a tech start-up, we have always been law-abiding citizens.
• At that point of time, Infinium Robotics was facing a cash crunch, and
• All employees have since been paid.

Moving forward, we remain focused on developing drone technology for the logistics and entertainment industries. Our current partners and potential customers remain in close collaboration. We expect positive developments in the near future and we will share with you as and when these developments take place.
