Apple says it has created 1 million developer jobs in India

Apple said it has created one million developer jobs in India, where the US tech giant is set to officially open two retail stores this week in Mumbai and Delhi.

In a statement celebrating 25 years of operating in the South Asian country, the company noted that its App Store payouts to developers in India have more than tripled since 2018. Its revenue from the country also hit a 45% jump year on year in 2022, Times of India reported.

Apple has been manufacturing iPhones in India since 2017. Recently, its supplier Foxconn is reportedly gearing up to create a new factory in the country to produce AirPods locally.

The news follows Apple reshuffling its global sales teams to put more emphasis on India, with the country becoming its own sales region for the US company.

In addition, as part of its efforts to be fully carbon neutral for its supply chain and products by 2030, Apple plans to use 100% clean energy for its manufacturing operations in India.
