Aussie IPOs get the express lane

Welcome to the Opening Bell 🔔! Delivered every other Monday via email and through the Tech in Asia website, this free newsletter breaks down the biggest stories and latest trends on Asia’s publicly listed tech companies. Get it in your email inbox by registering here.

Hello reader,

While hardly buzzing, the IPO scene in the Philippines has been eagerly anticipating the debut of fintech titan GCash. When that happens, the listing – which could see the firm raising up to US$1.5 billion – could be the largest in the country.

The Philippines only counts one tech listing so far: Xurpas’ 2014 IPO. I’m hoping GCash succeeds and opens up the door for other tech players to go public.

Meanwhile, Australia’s securities regulator is moving to spur activity by speeding up the process of going public.

For example, companies with a projected market capitalization of A$100 million (US$64.9 million) may be fast-tracked to their listing.

While a welcome step, analysts don’t see this as a silver bullet to the country’s lagging IPO landscape.

P.S. This is the last edition of the Opening Bell. We hope you’ve enjoyed reading this newsletter as much as we have keeping you up to speed on public company trends.

1️⃣ Siri is catching up: Apple (APPL, NDAQ) is reportedly juicing up its voice assistant for a spring 2026 comeback as part of an iOS 26.4 update. The updated Siri is expected to be better at executing user queries, as it can access a user’s personal data and on-screen activities.
