Being a blogger and entrepreneur is fun. We get invited to events, speak to different folks in the tech industry, and of course meet interesting start-up founders. Those founders exhibit a variety of characteristics: the determined, the arrogant, the friendly, and the helpful. It’s always fun to chat with fellow entrepreneurs.
And in my experience, somehow, part of the conversation will always be about the problems faced by entrepreneurs.
Every entrepreneur, no matter how strong or independent, faces problems and would love to share them with fellow entrepreneurs (because entrepreneurs understand entrepreneurs). After all, we all need an outlet to share our problems.
Don’t get me wrong though – there’s nothing too emotional going on. When you see an entrepreneur sulk and curse his latest failed venture, consider that it could well be because he thinks that you might have a possible solution.
It’s actually smart; and I realize I do that too. It all boils down to business, and the way everyone is relying on everyone’s network to grow and build.
And as our team attempts to cover tech across Asia — namely China, Japan, India, and Indonesia — somehow we find ourselves having a treasure trove of contacts which we can share with founders. Whether it is about market expansion, or start-ups seeking investors (or vice versa), we have some valuable contacts to share with everyone.
Increasingly, I find myself being the bridge, helping people connect with people. I have no complaints – and in fact I’m happy to provide the service.
I often preach that PO is always looking to build the start-up ecosystem in Asia. If we serve the ecosystem well, it will reward us one day. Not sure when; but we shall see. But for now, we’re at your service. Send us a note and let us know how we can help at hello[at]penn-olson[dot]com
