ASTA coming to China via Changyou, first beta starting soon

Korean MMORPG ASTA: The War of Tears and Winds (아스타) has been impressing people ever since the Polygon-developed game hit open beta in Korea last year. But South Korean MMOs, as Blade & Soul has proved, also can find huge markets in China, and ASTA is poised to do just that following the announcement that Chinese publisher Changyou has come to an agreement with NHN to operate the game in China.

The game has also been given an official Chinese title (天神纪) and an official site. But the most exciting news of all is that Chinese players, or at least a few Chinese players, will finally get to try the game when its first Chinese beta begins this July.

The game, which runs on the Cry Engine 3, is an MMORPG based on East Asian history, fantasy and mythology. It looks beautiful, and you can check out the official trailer for the Chinese version of the game below.

(You can also find a higher-def version of the same trailer here, but some readers outside China may have trouble getting that video player to work).

Sadly, there don’t seem to be any details yet on when an English version of the game might be available. Come on, Korean devs, this is ridiculous!
