Lootiful, the makers of the iPWN Gameboy case for iPhone (formerly at iPWNcase.com), look to be gearing up to make an iPad2 case as well. You may have seen its iPWN cases before, which wrap your iPhone 4 in a shell that makes it a dead-ringer for a Nintendo Gameboy, circa 1989. Of course, it’s just the back of your iPhone that gets ‘Gamboyified,’ as the front is still just your regular screen.
Despite the apparent decline in dedicated console gaming devices as more casual gamers play on smartphones, I confess I still prefer mashing tactile buttons to the iPhone/iPad gaming experience.
Back in April I wrote elsewhere about Japanese company Donya who makes rubberized buttons that you can stick on your iPhone touchscreen to give it a more authentic gaming feel (pictured right).
I wonder if an iPad could be Gameboyified in some way? It would be nice if there was a slightly wider bezel with gaming buttons on it. Apparently Apple has the patent for a ‘smart bezel’ too, so it certainly sounds doable.
Until then, perhaps we’re stuck with pretending that we have an old-style gaming experience with one of these shells from Lootiful. I can probably live with that…
