Baidu launches dongle package to break down the walls between devices

Following in the apparent trend of web companies doing dongles, Baidu has quietly launched a trifecta of gadgets designed to make the web a bit more mobile without actually using mobile phones. Here’s what they are (seen from left to right in the image above):

• “Little Du” WiFi: a USB WiFi dongle similar to the one Qihoo launched a few months ago that makes it easy to share wired internet connections by creating an instant WiFi network.
• “Little Du” Router: a dongle that will facilitate the download and sharing of streamed data (such as music) connected to your Baidu account remotely, allows for the remote control of smartphones and tablets (assuming they have the right software installed), and also helps facilitate easy internet connections.
• “Little Du” TV: a dongle that will facilitate playing web video on TVs. It supports DLNA, Airplay, and Miracast, and it will make it easy for users to watch flash video on the big screen.

This whole package will supposedly retail for under 300 RMB ($50), with the idea being that users who buy the package can easily take advantage of cloud computing wherever they are and move media around between various devices without limitations. Right now, only the “Little Du” WiFi dongle has an official price; it’ll run you just $3 and can be reserved right now on the “Little Du” official site. The other two devices are “coming soon”, so it’s not yet clear how they’ll be priced or when exactly they’ll be available.
