Users claim Go-Pay was hacked. Go-Jek says users’ accounts were compromised

Go-Jek is a popular app for hailing motorbike rides in Indonesia’s capital. It has since expanded to offer other on-demand services like food and cleaners. Photo credit: Go-Jek.
Go-Jek seems to be the target of rumors as of late. After a presentation about its financials was leaked last week, there are now talks about a supposed breach in its payment system, Go-Pay. Go-Jek has denied this.
“Go-Jek had heard about the possibility of unlawful access to our system,” the company responds to a query about the matter on Twitter.

“But based on the investigation of our team of security experts, we assure you that Go-Jek’s system was not hacked. Thanks,” it continues.

A post on popular Indonesian forum Kaskus alleges that Go-Pay accounts have been hacked and the hackers have put the credit balances up for sale on Facebook. Go-Pay is the virtual wallet that Go-Jek customers use to pay for services offered by the company – be it rides, food deliveries, massages, or cleaning services.
The Kaskus user “03072015” says:

“Last night, about 10 pm, I logged into my Facebook account and I scrolled through my timeline, then I found [my friend] commenting on someone’s status. That status was very weird. It said he was selling a Go-Jek account which had Rp 100,000 balance for only Rp 30,000. So I stalked my friend, and turns out he joined a CARDING group. So I just ate illegitimate food? Oh my God…”
