In brief: Alibaba in talks to acquire NetEase’s Kaola for $2b, sources say
- Alibaba is in talks with NetEase to acquire its cross-border ecommerce arm Kaola and may merge the unit with its Tmall International platform, people familiar with the matter told financial blog IPO Zaozhidao, TechNode reported.
- Alibaba could pay as much as US$2 billion to complete the takeover, Sina Finance reported.
- The deal would represent a step toward market consolidation in China’s ecommerce sector.
