Hong Kong-based BSD Education plans to raise $4m in its ongoing series A round

Hong Kong-based edtech firm BSD Education said it is currently in the process of raising US$4 million from undisclosed investors in its series A financing round.

An online learning platform that provides digital curriculum to teachers, BSD is rooted in coding, website development, product management, user experience, user interface, and data science, among others. It also offers professional development and coaching sessions for teachers throughout the year.

Funds that will be raised from the financing round will help expand the company’s partnerships with educational institutions in North America and Greater China, BSD said. It will also look for tie-ups with municipal and national bodies to help their markets’ educational systems develop digital skills.

Currently, the edtech firm works with over 200 institutions that include schools, educational businesses, government organizations, and universities, and serves about 56,000 students and about 3,500 educators in 13 countries.

The company also said it has been accepted into the SuperCharger Ventures’ edtech accelerator, which focuses on early- and growth-stage startups. The accelerator has helped 49 companies raise over US$500 million in funding, and has also helped execute more than 400 commercial deals.

“Digital skills education has never been more critical in preparing the next generation for their future,” said the edtech startup’s CEO Chris Geary. “BSD Education ultimately aims to reduce inequality by solving the digital skills divide.”

The Hong Kong-based company claimed that usage of its online platform grew by 55% during the pandemic.

BSD aims to be profitable next year and looks to add another eight employees to its current 27 staff. It has teamed with distribution partners in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and India, among others.
