In brief: Kakao launches blockchain platform Klaytn

Ground X, the blockchain subsidiary of South Korean mobile platform Kakao, has introduced the test net of Klaytn to its partners.

Klaytn eliminates the traditional inconveniences such as wallets, private keys, and cryptograph addresses in order to lower the barriers to blockchain technology for end-users.

The test net’s block interval has been shortened to less than one second with up to 1,500 transactions per second – which would take an hour for Bitcoin and several minutes for Ethereum.

The platform’s tokens are called Klay.

Kakao set up Ground X earlier this year with the goal of making blockchain more accessible to people who are not experts in the tech.

Klaytn features tutorials and toolkits for the development of blockchain-based services. The toolkits include Klaytn Wallet, which allows users to safely transfer their tokens created on Klaytn; KlaytnScope, which lets users monitor all activities on Klaytn, including block creation and transaction; and Blasq, an incentivized blockchain co-working community where users’ blockchain-related questions and answers are rewarded with tokens.

Ten partners from various industries like entertainment, gaming, and social media have joined the platform.
