India’s startups are hitting May hard and fast, with tons of cool funding news coming out of several industries. Blume Ventures has invested in a test preparation startup, and a website that helps students in higher education map out their future careers also brought in an investment. Then, a certain startup-guzzling car website parent made yet another acquisition. Good thing you’re here to keep up – here are six startups that have received funding or undergone acquisitions in India.
Prepathon

Blume Ventures has invested an undisclosed amount in Prepathon, a test preparation chatbot app that helps in subjects such as engineering, banking, government, and management. The pre-series A funding will help add 50 new courses to the app.
Prepathon was launched by education community Pagalguy in August 2015. It is run by Mumbai-based Inzane Labs and has 150,000 users.
Pagalguy, a community for people to discuss universities and educational classes, was founded by Allwin Agnel in 2002.
Similar app Oliveboard raised an undisclosed round last week, while less than two months ago, Byju raised US$75 million, the largest edtech funding round in India ever.
Volob
Noida-based virtual reality startup Volob Technologies specializes in real-time 3D visualization, which can help explain visual concepts to customers across industries. It’s also just been acquired by the equivalent of Pac-Man in India’s startup scene: Jaipur-based Girnar Software.
A couple weeks ago, I joked in the comments that Girnar’s investment in car testing firm Advanced Structures Asia was a combo-breaker because it didn’t involve an acquisition.
Not even close.
Last week, Girnar acquired manager-marketer communication startup Connecto. Less than a month ago, it acquired roadside assistance startup Help On Wheels. Now, Volob has been added to the list.
Volob was founded in 2010 by Tarun Kumar and Shweta Jain.
