Gay marriage: why are Asian tech companies so silent?

SCOTUS just declared that gay marriage is now legal across all 50 states in the US and Silicon Valley’s reaction is an outpouring of love and support.

Recode sums it up pretty well,

Uber changed its app so that its cars left a rainbow trail on the map. Facebook offered users a way to add a rainbow flag over their existing profile pic. Twitter added a rainbow heart icon when using the hashtag LoveWins.

Google celebrated in a number of ways, including an animated gif of the Android mascot waving a rainbow flag and a surprise that shows up when searching for LGBT-related terms such as “marriage equality.”

But why are Asian tech companies so silent on this issue when we’ve always spoken out and reacted to other important news about the West? Are LGBT rights just not as pertinent a conversation in Asia?

Is having a cause really so unusual for Asian companies (unless they are outrightly social entrepreneurship firms)? Or are causes common but just not gender-related ones?
