China has now preordered more than 4 million new iPhones

iphone-6

Well, that was fast. After selling 2 million iPhone 6 and 6 Pluses during the first six hours of preorders in China, the train has kept on rolling. Now, according to Tencent Digital, Chinese consumers have preordered more than 4 million of the devices.

That number does not include preorders from Apple’s website or China’s Apple stores, which will not begin accepting preorders until October 10. It does include the numbers from the preorder events of China’s three major telecom providers as well as smaller virtual telecoms, retail electronics chains like Suning, and ecommerce sites like JD.

And of course, the numbers are still growing. In fact, as of this writing, JD.com alone claims to have sold nearly 3 million phones, as its preorder page shows more than 1.3 million iPhone 6s and more than 1.4 million iPhone 6 Pluses have been preordered via the site. And those numbers are climbing steadily every time the site refreshes.
