Get your employees off their butts with FeetApart

If you spend the major chunk of your day hunching over your computer, and your midriff’s a casualty of your lifestyle, it is time to make some changes.
You’ve tried it all you say, and nothing works? Well, maybe it is time to take this problem to your boss. Bangalore-based startup FeetApart hopes you do, and uses its app to see you through.
Not willing to be a me-too among a bunch of other health apps floating around in the country, FeetApart targets lazy individuals through the one channel most of us know to be effective – the workplace. Aimed at corporate houses, this health app creates a social network among employees of a company, mixing fitness with group tasks and rewards to get everyone off their chairs and moving.
“It is primarily targeted at people who are at their desks nine hours a day and are not doing much in terms of physical activities. The idea is to take care of their wellbeing and provide the organization with a more fun and energized workforce,” founder Abhishek Roy told Tech In Asia.
A marathon runner himself, Abhishek said he has designed the app to focus more on activities than nutrition, which makes it different from other health apps like HealthifyMe, which zooms in on user diets rather than physical exercise.
“We will not tell you what to eat. But we will tell you what the benefits of eating certain foods are,” Abhishek said.
Once a company registers itself with FeetApart, Abhishek and team enter all willing employees’ numbers in to open their accounts and bring them on board.
From then on, it is a journey through competitions, contests and rewards.
“One of the more popular things is a team competition. People form teams of five or six members and they challenge each other on health activities which we track via wearable tech and smartphone apps,” Abhishek said.
To make usage easier, FeetApart can read your scores from any wearable tech or even mobile apps that count steps. The app has some inbuilt checks that can read potential cheating (like when you move your hand instead of taking a step to get your tracker count up). But apart from that, all it does is integrate scores.
“Whatever platform you are on, it can work on our app. And it’s personalized. If you’re interested in yoga and running, the app will link you to people similar to you within your office,” Abhishek said.
