These 10 Korean startups are coming to Singapore – here’s how you can meet them [UPDATED]

Here’s a heads-up if you have your eye on Korea’s tech scene and its startups – Venture Square, backed by public organization Gyeonggi Content Agency, is sending ten startups from South Korea to Singapore and wants to extend an invitation to all investors to mingle with them in a cozy networking party over drinks. Here’s a quick rundown on who these startups are.

BBDBU

People can easily share blog and news articles on social media platforms with links – but sharing book content is something that is still limited. BBDBU hopes to change that with its digital service platform that transforms file-based ebooks into URL accessible cloud content, providing a suite of digital book reading applications that runs on iOS, Android, and web browsers.

Diocian

Diocian is a global music network platform provider as well as a one-stop service for musicians to communicate, promote, publish, and distribute their work, as well as share profits between member musicians.

Keypair

Keypair provides security for financial transactions through an NFC-enabled card, boosted with hardware security modules and a one-time password authentication service through smartphones. Currently, 75 percent of all banks in Korea use Keypair’s service for authentication processes. The startup claims that the hack-proof product is also appropriate for ecommerce and government platforms to use.

Butler Studio

Butler Studio presents a simple solution to keep your used umbrella from wetting your clothes. Its signature product, the Inverted Umbrella folds in reverse so that the dry side of the umbrella stays on the outside.

Tripeaks

Tripeaks has developed a cross-device online game, Stone Cloud, that enables PC, smartphone, and tablet users to play together in the same game in real time.

Eggbun

Eggbun aims to teach foreigners Korean by offering one-to-one tutoring. It allows users to ‘chat’ with the program as it guides the conversation with accepted responses.

Melephant

Melephant aims to create a new video entertainment culture with its product, SeeSo, a video app for event-lovers to catch up on the fun at at events they can’t attend physically. It blends all videos under the same hashtag seamlessly and continuously to create a realistic user experience.

IAMcompany

It’s no secret that Koreans take their education very seriously. IAMcompany is one of the many startups that’s capitalizing on this massive market. It currently has two products, IAMSchool and IAMClass. The first ensures that anxious parents can access their child’s school announcements and facilitates management, while the latter provides management and attendance systems for institutions.

MH Mind

MH Mind is a mobile billing service. Through the app, users can tap to pay for goods and services through their preferred method.

Attocube

Attocube is another edtech startup that merges offline puzzles with the online world. It takes the classic set of wooden blocks and smartens it up, so young users can match block shapes with what they see online, to develop their cognitive skills.

The networking party will be held as a follow up to Venture Square’s Demo Day happening on November 19, where each startup will have a chance to soak up the limelight and pitch for five minutes before taking questions from the floor. From this, one can expect to shape a deeper understanding of how the gradual influx of Korean startups into the Southeast Asian tech ecosystem will impact the dynamics within the market.
