5 international startups to watch out for at TIA Tokyo 2016

It’s been just two weeks since the sun set on a successful Tech in Asia Bangalore, but for the ever-busy members of the tech startup industry, the quest for new horizons and beginnings marches on. And where better to rise with the new dawn than in the Land of the Rising Sun itself?
Five startups hailing from across Asia have already seized on the opportunity to do just that. Bootstrap Alley returns for another round of fresh innovation at Tech in Asia Tokyo 2016, and here’s a preview of what these far-flung visitors will bring to Japanese shores.
1. Sportify (Malaysia)

The ingeniously-named Sportify is offering a platform for sports buddies to book the facilities they need with the minimum amount of hassle. A few taps and swipes are all you need to bring up a list of neighbouring facilities, along with their availabilities and booking rates. An innovative add/drop function even allows those flying solo to join upcoming sessions, or organisers to quickly find replacements for last-minute dropouts. Now you’ll never lack the numbers to make up your dream team.
2. Mober (The Philippines)

Ever been stuck in front of an empty house waiting for movers who should have been there hours ago? Mober is seeking to make it a thing of the past. Vehicles-on-demand apps are a dime a dozen these days, but this app has a unique edge over its rivals: furniture and bulky object transportation. With a fleet of GPS-trackable, 24/7 available trucks and vans, Mober is already well on its way to revolutionising transportation services in the Metro Manila region. No wonder plaudits from local media outlets have been swiftly forthcoming.
3. Pet Widget (Singapore)

The process of reuniting a lost pet with its anxious owner can be slow and frustrating. Many do-gooders have no idea where to take the animal, how to contact the owner, or even who the owner is. Pet Widget to the rescue. Simply scanning the QR code on a furry critter’s customised ID tag (known as a ‘badge’) will provide a would-be rescuer with all the essential information she needs. All pet owners have to do is download the free app, create a profile for their pet and link it to a previously purchased badge.
4. Top4 (Australia)

Combining the best of social media with a traditional brand and business directory, Top4 seeks to bridge the gap between consumers and businesses by enabling both sides to make informed, enlightened decisions. Potential customers can search the directory for a list of reliable and pre-screened providers before choosing the one which best fits their needs, while businesses can rely on the portal’s wide network to reach their targeted demographic. Sounds like a win-win situation all around!
5. GiftCard (Indonesia)

The days when holiday season would entail the mass purchase of impractical trinkets for acquaintances and business contacts are over. At least if GiftCard has anything to say about it. With the Indonesia-based startup’s extensive range of gifting options, you’re more than likely to find something to please everyone. Whether it’s high-end dining experiences, prepaid credit or redeemable vouchers, GiftCard has it all. Even businesses can get in on the action with individually customised gift cards to reward loyal customers or employees.
