China is usually left out of a ton of fun stuff because of crippling regulations on games and most forms of media. But that won’t be the case with PlayStation VR, Sony’s upcoming virtual reality headset.
At an event this afternoon ahead of the opening tomorrow of ChinaJoy, the country’s biggest gaming convention, the Japanese company revealed that the PlayStation VR will arrive in China on October 13, just as it will in many other countries.

The Chinese price will be a bit higher – US$450, rather than US$399 in the US. The full package with the camera and two controllers is set at US$555 in China.
But China gets only 20 VR games.
The VR headset was first revealed in March.
One downer for Chinese gadget lovers keen to plug the VR headset into their PlayStations – the country will only get 20 VR games between October and the end of the year, compared to the 50 being promised elsewhere.
The PlayStation VR has a good shot at becoming the most popular consumer choice for virtual reality as it doesn’t need a specialist, souped-up PC.
“If you don’t have a PS4, you can get those as low as US$350. Then you’ll need the PlayStation VR headset (US$400), the PlayStation camera (US$50), and Move controllers (around US$50). That’s a full high-end VR setup for around US$850,” points out m’colleague Charlie. “Even when you factor in the price of an online subscription and a bunch of expensive PS4 games, going from zero to total VR is still going to be cheaper on PlayStation than it is on PC.”
