The Gigabyte Mineski Pro Gaming League (GMPGL) Season 5 SEA Grand Finals wasn’t exactly an International, but that doesn’t mean nothing awesome happened. If you didn’t get to attend the event at the SM Skydome or watch the online streams, we have here a list of the things you’ve missed at the GMPGL Season 5 SEA Grand Finals.
1. Team taunts and intros
All we have right now is this animated GIF of Team Titan as an example of what the team taunts look like. Are you intimidated yet? The intros and taunts for the rest of the teams have yet to be compiled. If you have been following the Asian Dota scene, this may be familiar to you, that’s because these taunting intros first happened during the G-League Grand Finals between Invictus Gaming (iG) and LGD.int. Maybe this video will help you remember.
2. Casters, panelists, and reporters wearing Philippine national costume
This happened only on the first day. In order to add a Pinoy touch to the tournament, casters, panelists, and reporters were garbed in either a Barong Tagalog (male) or a Filipiniana terno (female). Yes, this included the foreign casters David “G0dz” Parker and Chan “Winter” LittBinn!
3. Freebies!
I know you go to events for the tournament, but let’s be honest here. You know you were hoping (so much) for freebies. And if you’re Pinoy, you’re probably on the hunt for those rubber wrist bands or bracelets better known as ballers. GMPGL 5 had them —cards, ballers, shirts, posters, and even tissue paper.
4. The first ever SEA macho man look contest
Yes, we’re still talking about the GMPGL season 5 here. Eri Neeman is an actor, comedian, and a favorite guest host for eSports events. And he is the mastermind of the first ever SEA macho man look contest featuring Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, and the Philippines. If you’re not sure who won or what transpired, watch the video.
